What is EECP ?

How does EECP work?

Cuffs like those for blood pressure are wrapped around your
calves during EECP

A second pair of cuffs wrap around the thighs.

A technician wraps cuffs around the buttocks prior to beginning
EECP treatment.

During EECP, electrodes are placed on your body

During EECP, electrodes are placed on your body.
  • You lie on a comfortable EECP bed.
  • Three blood-pressure cuffs wrap around your calves, thighs and buttocks.
  • hook you to a heart monitor.
  • When the heart is at rest, these blood pressure cuffs squeeze your calves, thighs and buttocks
moving oxygenated blood from your lower legs back to the heart and through the entire body.
  • When your heart pumps, the cuffs deflate rapidly and do not interfere with your body's natural function.
  • This blood flow helps open new arteries and in the process bypasses any blocked artery in your body.
  • EECP treatments are like having a second heart while yours is at rest

In brief EECP results in
  • Increased diastolic perfusion pressure.
  • Increased coronary perfusion
  • Increased coronary collateral flow to ischemic regions of myocardium.
  • Decreased ventricular load.
  • Increased venous return.
